Week 10

Posted: May 13, 2011 in Uncategorized

Kinda funny. It’s week ten and I’ve lost ten pounds to date.

Anyway, here are the stats for week 10:

Upper Arms:      15 3/4″  from 16 1/2 ”
Chest:                 39 1/2′  from 40 1/2″
Waist:                 46 1/2″ from 47 1/2″
Hips:                   45 1/2″ from 46 1/2″
Thighs:                26 1/2″ from 27 1/2″

Weight:  220

Yay: Kept on track and got better about working out.
Meh: Need to work out more.

This weeks goal: WORK OUT MORE!!!

I’ve noticed a few things that I like since starting this whole thing.

  • Almost 5 out of 7 mornings I eat 1 cup of cooked oatmeal with whatever frozen unsweetened berries I have on hand, 1 egg and 1 piece of turkey bacon. That’s a pretty darn good breakfast.
  • It takes me almost all morning to get all that oatmeal eaten so Lunch is usually very, very light.
  • My afternoon snack is usually something like a handful of nuts or a piece of bread with natural almond butter spread on it.
  • Dinner has become a giant salad (taking up roughly 1/2 – 2/3’s my plate) and the rest of the plate space divided between whatever meat I just grilled and the veggies I made.
  • I’ve all but cut all drinks out of my diet aside from 1 cup of skim milk a day and a lot of water.
  • A lot of food choices that I started out having to really think about are now becoming second nature
    • Eating a piece of whole wheat bread w/ natural almond butter instead of a cookie
    • Choosing to not eat breakfast meat or hash browns if I’m having pancakes and eggs
    • Passing up a lot of comfort food

The list really goes on and on, but this is real and good progress. I’d really, really like to see the weight some off super fast, and I could make it come off fast. But the problem with doing that is I’m just putting a band-aid over cancer. Yeah I’d look good, but I wouldn’t be fixing the real problem of my improper eating habits and I’d just be passing that down to Phillip.

So, while I’d like to jump on Adkins and drop 60 pounds in 4-6 months, I’ll take the slow, steady fix it approach.

I caught myself starting the three week slide yesterday.

Key words, ‘caught myself’.

So, back on track and not letting myself fall back into old, bad habits.

Also, so far so good on the cheat day. I’ve given myself the guidelines and stayed well within them. I like that. I was right, it really does help to have that day to look forward to where I don’t have to watch what I eat so closely.

Now, all I have to do is start working out more…..

Reward Time

Posted: May 10, 2011 in Uncategorized

I actually kind of forgot about the whole reward thing I had set up.

I went back to re-read some of my earlier entries and realized that I was still just focusing on the big light at the end of the tunnel not on any of the “Yay! I did alright” things.

So, I’m going to set up my rewards again.

But, I’m making a little tweak to the plan.

When I feel I deserve a reward I’m going to take it. I’ll decide when the time comes what the rewards will be rather than putting them down on paper in advance. Also, I’m changing it to where I really have to have done something to earn my rewards. Not just “Hey! I made it a week”, something real. I’ll post why I think I deserve my reward and what it will be when I figure I actually get one.

REWARD:

I’ve lost 8 pounds, and several inches. I’ve also caught myself slipping and stopped it. As well as caught myself not “stress eating” or eating something small and sensible if I do stress eat.

I think all of those reasons qualify me for a reward.
I’m finally going to get started on the ink work I want done. I’ve got the appointment made and am all set up! I love Jinx (the tattoo artist), he’s a ref at derby along side me and a totally awesome guy!

This weekend, it’s my birthday so Seth and I are going to go out and have a nice sit down dinner without Kiddo and pretend we’re adults who get to do adult things every once in a while.

Those two things combined with the new puppy are my reward set for all of those things above.

Next reward probably won’t come until I get my a$$ in gear and get exercising!
